Dr. Alex Yitbarek
Alex Yitbarek is an Assistant Professor at the department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. From Mar 2018 to Jul 2021, he was a poultry scientist with Danisco Animal Nutrition (DuPont, now International Flavours and Fragrances). From Sept 2014 to Mar 2018, he was a PhD student at the Department of Pathobiology, the Ontario Veterinary College, in Guelph, ON, with Dr. Shayan Sharif, studying the interplay between gut microbiota of chickens and influenza virus infections. Before pursuing his PhD, he worked as a Poultry Research Associate with Nutreco Canada, in Guelph, ON. Before that, he worked for three years at the nutritional immunology laboratory, university of Manitoba, with Dr. Juan Carlos Rodriguez-Lecompte, on avian immunology research. In 2010, he obtained a BSc. in Microbiology and an MSc. in swine nutrition from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He also received his first BSc. Degree in Animal Science from the University of Asmara, Eritrea.
